One last bootcamp fact, Spielberg had the actors go through bootcamp but not for the main intention of them learning the proper techniques but instead “because I wanted them to respect what it was like to be a soldier.”

Robin Williams To The Rescue
The late, great Robin Williams was the one to introduce Matt Damon to Steven Spielberg during rehearsals for the film Good Will Hunting. Spielberg was already in Boston shooting another film, and Williams brought Damon to say hello to the director – Williams and Spielberg worked on Hook previously. Just two weeks later and Damon got a call from Spielberg to star as Private Ryan.
