An Apache pilot for the US army, Ryan Welch not only landed his aircraft inside the most dangerous and well known Triangle of Death, he then proceeded to evacuate two downed pilots over more than 100 yards to his helicopter. Even then, with complete disregard for his own safety, he strapped himself to side of the helicopter due to lack of room and flew on the outside to the hospital. For his actions he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
