While the United States is one of the largest countries in the world, its citizens tend to forget that a world outside of it exists. Americans are very set in their ways, and often when visitors from outside the U.S. visit, they’re totally surprised by things that are totally normal in America. One Reddit user wanted to find out what the most surprising ones are, and he posed the question to non-Americans: “What’s an American problem you’re too European to understand? Here are some of the best responses!

Reddit user MrLongWalk pointed out that: “American fashion is more about comfort and utility, European fashion is about making a statement.”  For example, “Americans tend to reserve formal shoes for special occasions are formal settings, Europeans tend to just wear them around.”

Another Reddit user brought up the point that: “Something I noticed when I lived in Italy was that the young women had far fewer, but much nicer clothes than my American friends. My friends, especially in our early 20s, were much more into the “fast fashion” movement than any Europeans I knew.”
