As the herd was making their way across the river, the smallest baby of the group stumbled and fell into a muddy hole between the land and the river. The hole was far too deep for the little elephant to climb out.

As soon as the herd noticed what had happened they realized that the infant was in terrible danger and they became distressed. The hole was too small for one of the adults to climb in and help the baby out.
