Jordan Peele

Speaking of records directors set, Jordan Peele set some crazy ones with his directorial debut, Get Out. Get Out, an eerie, at times funny but intense thriller, won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, but also got nominated for Best Director and Best Picture. Everyone knew Jordan Peele from the Comedy Central show, Key & Peele, but he really blew everyone away with this film, which became one of the most profitable movies ever. Oh the movie also got four Academy nominations. Peele is the first African American screenwriter to win an Academy for Best Original Screenplay. Now, Peele wants to retire from acting but continue directing, with the HBO show, Lovecraft Country as his next project.

Greta Gerwig

Surely, you’ve heard or seen the Golden Globe winner for Best Motion Picture, Ladybird (not what you’d imagine hearing it’s a film about a high school senior). So director Greta Gerwig actually got two Academy Award nominations, one was for Best Director, no surprise there! In addition, Ladybird was nominated at the Golden Globes and BAFTA. Gerwid became the 5th ever female to be nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Director. Wow.
