He served in the army from June 21, 1943 to January 6, 1946, as Technician Grade 5. His acting career only began after he was discharged. He met the right people in the industry which landed him roles that got him started.

Awarded For His Service
Even though he never shot a single bullet, he received many awards for being a WWII veteran. He received a Philippine Liberation Medal, WWII Victory Medal and an Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four bronze service stars.
