Steak & Ale

Steak & Ale was founded in Dallas, Texas in 1966. Their goal was to serve steaks at a price point that was affordable to all. Thanks to their Tudor stylized building and dim lights, it did not feel like a typical fast food joint. It was eventually purchased by Pillsbury and after the 2008 market crash the chain filed for bankruptcy and shuttered completely.

D’Lites

In a move that was ahead of its time, D’Lites aimed to serve up fast food favorites but with a healthier twist. They used lean ground beef, lower calorie cheese, fiber-filled buns, and frozen yogurt in place of ice cream. Founded in 1978, by 1987 D’Lites filed Chapter 11 and eventually sold to Hardee’s.
