Sick Shoot

No one enjoys suffering through work while sick. Maybe taking a sick day to see a doctor is no big deal for some people, who have not just good health insurance coverage but certain jobs. Can you imagine trying to shoot one of the most iconic scenes while under the weather? That’s exactly what Tom Hanks did during the football running scene. Somehow, he managed to pull it off all while sick with the flu.

True Chocolate Line

Since the film is based on a book, some things were tweaked before taking the story to the screen. In Winstom Groom’s novel, Gump was more cynical than the lovable, naive man in the movie. Perhaps, the most notable change was that iconic line about a box of chocolates. The book’s original line had a different feel. It said, “Let me say this: bei’n a idiot is no box of chocolates. People laugh, lose patience, treat you shabby. Now they says folks s’posed to be kind to the afflicted, but let me tell you – it ain’t always that way. Even so, I got no complaints, cause I reckon I done live a pretty interestin’ life, so to speak.”
