No, Johnny Carson’s friendship with Joan Rivers did not end due to nasty accusations of cosmetic surgery or open insults like that. Actually, in 1987 Carson was so insulted that Rivers accepted an offer for a talk show that would air the same time as his, that he cut all ties. Of course, Rivers had been a huge reason why Carson got his NBC contract. She appeared as a guest on his show regularly. Yet, none of their history mattered when her Fox show was set to air simultaneously with Carson’s show.
