“Layla” was not the only song written about Boyd. In 1969, three years into their marriage, Harrison wrote the song “Something,” which was said to be a tribute to her. She said: “[George] told me in a matter-of-fact way that he had written it for me. I thought it was beautiful, and it turned out to be the most successful song he ever wrote, with more than 150 cover versions.”

Boyd explained: “Frank Sinatra said [that] he thought it was the best love song ever written. George’s favorite version was the one by James Brown. Mine was the one by George Harrison, which he played to me in our kitchen.” Most music critics say the song is one of the best songs by The Beatles and put Harrison in the same league as his unfairly more celebrated bandmates Paul McCartney and John Lennon.
