Matt Damon has starred in countless hit films including Good Will Hunting and The Departed. That doesn’t mean that he’s immune from making a poor career choice. He chose to back out of directing and starring in the film Manchester By the Sea and appeared in the film Downsizing instead. The film did not end up doing well. Casey Affleck took his role in Manchester instead, earning an Oscar for Best Actor for his work in the film.

Tim Roth – Harry Potter
Actor Tim Roth was offered the role of Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film franchise. He chose to star in Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes and the role of Snape went to the late Alan Rickman. Rickman already had an incredibly successful career but his role as Snape made him into a global superstar. Meanwhile, Planet of the Apes was a flop.
