Becoming An Ambassador
Shirley Temple was more than just a child star. In fact, she even became the American ambassador to Ghana from 1974 until 1976. In addition, she was Gerald Ford’s chief of protocol the year after from 1976 until 1977. Again, she served as an ambassador in 1989.
Above And Beyond
It was George H.W. Bush who appointed her as the U.S. ambassador to Czechoslovakia. During the three years she served Prague, even Henry Kissinger commented that Shirley Temple was “very intelligent, very tough-minded, very disciplined.”
