Things weren’t easy for Frankie Valli growing up. Actually, he’s from the Newark housing project, Stephen Crane Village. Even Tommy DeVito later remarked, “There was only three ways out: You could join the army. You could get mobbed up. Or you could become a star.” Well, aren’t we glad Valli became the star he did!

Sherry Was Terry
The major hit “Sherry” topped the charts when The Four Seasons released it in 1962. Apparently, Bob Gaudio wrote the hit in just 15 minutes! Originally, he named it “Terry,” but his lyrics were just a placeholder to recall the tune for the band and their producer Bob Crewe. The Four Seasons loved the lyrics, but just changed the name. Franki Valli explained to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, “Sherry was a non-existent person…It was just a song and the name made it easier to sing, ‘Sherrrrry Sherry Baby.’ It was impossible to do that with the name Linda or Laurie. See, we were creating a sound.”
