The Marines and Baby Mariam

Following a roadside bomb that interrupted the routine patrol of Corpsman Chris Walsh and three other Marines in his squad in Fallujah, they were approached by and Iraqi woman with a sick baby(Mariam). Born with her bladder outside her body, the men knew they had to help. After documenting the girls condition and consulting the doctor, it was clear the girl needed treatment back in the States. After weeks of returning to the girls home under the cover of darkness to provide some treatment, Walsh and two other of the Marines were killed in an IED blast. However, the other marines from the battalion took upon themselves Walsh’s mission and succeeded in finding a way for Mariam to get the surgery she needed in Boston in 2006.
