Calculus Wasn’t Taught At Harvard At First -Because It Hadn’t Been Discovered Yet
Harvard University was founded in 1636. Meanwhile, modern calculus was developed later in the 17th century by Isaac Newton and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, though traces of the subject can be found in ancient China, Greece, and the Middle East. During Harvard’s first few years, calculus had not been recognized yet, and so it was only adapted into the institution later!
The Fax Machine Was Invented The Same Year The First Wagon Crossed The Oregon Trail
In 1843, the Oregon Trail was the massive wagon trail that was used by over 1000 people who decided to head West, setting off the tone for the Westward expansion and started off the “Great Migration.” What’s surprising is the the original fax machine was patented the very same year by inventor Alexander Bain!
